My favourite patterns for a sport jacket

As I write in my previous article about some of my favourite patterns like the Prince of Wales check (glen plaid) and windowpane; click here, hence as to continue in this article about the gun club checks and houndstooth patterns; which are predominantly familiar for sport coats/ jackets and overcoats as well.

The gun club check is significantly a classic and small crisscross check pattern that initially originated in Scotland, also the quintessential of this pattern is the crisscross lines essentially with four different colours like marron, pine green, light gold and black, actually, it gets more familiar after the American shooting club members begin to wear this patterned fabric as a shooting jacket in 1874, hence its called a gun club check but traditionally its called "The Coigach".

However, it's one of the best patterns for sports jackets/ coats and it's more suitable for your business casual and casual jackets/ coats, actually, more often I love to pair it with a polo shirt, denim jeans and dark brown suede chukka boots.

On the other hand,  we could wear it in a dressy way as well, like odd trousers with a nice dress shirt, knitted or grenadine tie and layered with a sleeveless cardigan if you like and a nice pocket square to add flair and end up with a nice pair of derby, penny or tassel loafers (black/ dark brown) is absolutely an elegant and exuberantly stylish look.

Relatively, the houndstooth pattern is broken checks also it's quite a resemblance to the dog's tooth; therefore, it is also called dong's tooth pattern.

Predominantly, its made in contrasting colour palettes (dark and light) and it's mainly on sports jackets and overcoats; I would prefer a black & white houndstooth patterned sport jacket as an essential in men's wardrobe because of the versatility and charismatic appeal whether you dress up or dress down.
