The Dinner Jacket

 Cheers Gentleman,

In the previous articles, I wrote about the Tuxedo / Dinner suit which is the most formal and appropriate evening attire for the gentleman, those who need to attend formal events such as movie premiere, new year evening, black tie events, special dinner occasions, and etc.

Perhaps if you (already) read about it in my previous articles you will know the etiquette and perspective of the Tuxedo / Dinner suit.

In the meanwhile, you may have to think like when I saw in the red carpet events some of the gentlemen wearing Tuxedo but their jacket is quite different from the tuxedo jacket, with colour and texture as well as the fabric.

Is it acceptable to wear an odd jacket instead of a tuxedo jacket with a Tuxedo / Dinner suit?

Yes, gentleman, it's called a dinner jacket and it is acceptable to wear on formal occasions.

I hope you remember a week before the movie No Time To Die world premiere in London Royal Albert Hall, and it's a black-tie event, in this event the British actor and the protagonist of this movie Mr Daniel Craig had worn a fabulous bespoke double-breasted pink cotton velvet dinner jacket, the jacket has side vents, covered buttons, and turn-back cuffs as well as paired with a midnight blue tuxedo trousers.

Therefore I decided in this article to share with you about the dinner jacket, and the difference between a tuxedo jacket and vs dinner jacket, a tuxedo refers to the whole ensemble of a matching black/midnight blue jacket and trousers typically with satin trim on the lapel of the jacket and on the sides of the trousers. But the dinner jacket does not follow the traditional path of the jacket matching the trousers. A dinner jacket can be of various kinds of colours from the most often seen white dinner jacket to red and even more extravagant, patterned jacket.

The dinner jackets are usually made from silk, velvet (silk velvet, cotton velvet), jacquard, and brocade, also silk blended linen, especially for tropical, in terms of patterns such as black watch tartan, a colourful allover raised and floral patterns.

The dinner jacket could be single-breasted/double-breasted, with a peak lapel or shawl lapel, and the lapel facing could be the same fabric as the rest of the jacket, and it also has no vents, perhaps you want to have side vents if you stand a lot and leave your hands in your pockets, and the buttons are should be cloth-covered buttons instead of mother of pearl buttons

Otherwise, the accessories and footwear are the same as a like tuxedo, Therefore gentlemen next time you go to attend any of your formal events you can make your beautiful dinner jacket instead of a tuxedo jacket, and make your looks elegant.

Thank you  gentleman
