Could I wear my white dress shirt with my tuxedo? | The specifications of a tuxedo shirt

If you ask me could I wear my white dress shirt with my tuxedo?; the answer is not because the black-tie attire is invariably distinguished from our everyday wear.

Therefore, in this article, I would like to write about the distinguished specifications of a tuxedo shirt which I hope will help you to understand the level of formality and elegance of black-tie attire, and perhaps if you decide to wear a tuxedo for your wedding or any other special occasions.

A tuxedo shirt has significant specifications interms of look such as shirt front, collar, cuffs, and placket.

However, the tuxedo shirt is supposed to be white and well-tailored and preferably, it must fasten with shirt studs (except the collar button) rather than the shirt buttons, interms of fabric you may choose a white poplin, twill, and royal oxford.

A poplin is quite soft and smooth and more breathable therefore it's more suitable for warmer weather, and the twill is relatively thicker and heavier; keeping you warm in the cold weather.

Nevertheless, the royal oxford is soft and shiny with a beautiful texture (basket weave) which gives a distinctive look to the shirt.

However, let us move on to the significant specifications of a tuxedo shirt; the shirt front has two types which are a Bib front (Marcella Pique) and a pleated front, a bib front is a rectangular panel that is attached in front of the shirt to create a symmetrical profile besides it would create a more conservative look.

The pleated front; obviously has precisely measured vertical pleats in the front of the shirt, which creates a nice contemporary look.

For choosing a collar, I would prefer to wear a pointed or perhaps semi-spread (4" or less between the collar tips) collar; if you ask why not a wing tip collar? certainly, you can if you prefer to wear but personally I consider a wing-tip collar significantly for white-tie attire.

Actually, the shirt placket is where the buttonholes are placed, and it has various types as well, but when it comes to tuxedo shirts predominantly we have two options to choose from such as the french placket and fly front (covered placket),

the french placket fabric is folded back and sewn from the inside; hence it would create a nice and clean look like one piece of fabric, relatively, the fly front has an additional piece of fabric sewn on the top to meant to cover the buttons below, therefore, it also called the covered placket and it creates a cleanest and elegant look.

Therefore, It Is the best option for you; perhaps if you don't want to fasten your tuxedo shirt with shirt studs.

For a tuxedo shirt cuffs; as always preferable to wear the french cuffs because they reveal a high level of formality and elegance besides interms of choosing the cufflinks they must be simple and elegant as well.
