How to look after your shoes in your day-to-day life

As I wrote in my previous articles similarly, bespoke shoemaking and buying quality shoes; therefore, in this article, I decided to write about how to look after your shoes, which is quite vital for our everyday social life to present ourselves pleasantly.

Although, high-end shoes need proper care to maintain their quality and longevity. Therefore, we shall pay attention to the following things.

  • Wear your shoes in a proper way which means when you wearing shoes first of all untie your shoe laces if it's lac-up (whether it might be a lace-up shoe or boot) and then use a shoehorn to put on your shoes smoothly, the shoehorn will prevent damage on the heel counter.

  • Don't wear the same pair of shoes every day. Indeed, when we wear shoes every day our feet emit lots of moisture which harm the integrity of the leather and increases creasing, therefore, should have two or three pairs of shoes in our wardrobe.

  • Use wooden shoe trees rather than plastic, when you remove your shoes just keep them in a dry place for a few moments, then put the shoe trees inside the shoes; the nature of the wooden shoe tree is will absorb the moisture and odour, also it would retain the shape of your shoes (avoid creasing on the vamp).

  • Brush your shoes; eventually, brush your shoes smoothly (dark brush for the darker shoes) to clean the dust on the shoes. For cleaning the welt use a welt brush to clean dirt ( you could also use it for applying shoe creams and waxes) then apply wax on the welt would prevent the water goes into the shoes.

  • Polishing your shoes; It's routine in our everyday life, however, the method of polishing and the shoe polishing products is absolutely your personal preference.

  • Keep your shoes in an appropriate place; certainly, keep your shoes away from the sunlight because it would decrease the colour of your shoes; therefore, keep your shoes in your wardrobe if have enough space, otherwise, safely keep them in the shoe box.

  • Use shoe bags; if you are a person who travels a lot, then must need a nice pair of shoe bags to prevent scratches on the upper and protect your clothes while it's in your travel bag.

  • Repair the outsole of your shoes on time; eventually, when the outsole of your shoe gets damaged then it is time to replace it, therefore, take them to a good cobbler or perhaps the shop that purchases your shoes; to replace a new outsole on time for your shoes.

I believe you acquire a piece of comprehensive knowledge about how to look after your shoes in your day-to-day life.

The American journalist Mr George Frazier said "If you want to know if the guy is well dressed, look down", therefore keep your shoes always look good and dress well.

Cheers gentleman
