Bespoke shoemaking (heritage, craftsmanship, and quality)

The art of bespoke shoemaking consists of being made of heritage, craftsmanship, individuality, and quality. Would you like to explore the process of bespoke shoemaking?

The consultation is the beginning of the bespoke process, they would cordially invite you to interrogate your requirements and desire to make your distinctive model bespoke shoes, and then they will guide you to explore various types and quality of the leather and also explain about construction and design of the shoe.

Hence, here the beautiful correlation is begun between the client and the artisan and it will have been for decades.

Subsequently, the craftsman (last maker/ shoemaker) will measure your foot; first of all, it begins to draw the outline of your foot and measure the size and then moves on to measure your toe then measure the lower instep and higher instep, eventually measures the level of arch and heel of your foot and these measurements are all taking precisely in two steps like while you sitting and then standing, but it's quite different from the artisan to artisan.

However, in the bespoke world, every artisan has their own iconic style in making their products, indeed, it is the essence of craftsmanship.

After the completion of the foot measurement, the last maker will take to his atelier and begin to carve the piece of wood to make the wooden last according to your foot measurement, apparently, the word "last" is derived from an old English word "least", which means footprint.

The wooden last significantly contributes to the bespoke shoemaking process and it would determine the structure of the shoes as well.

Pattern making is crafting the design of the shoe, which means pasting the masking tape on the top of the wooden last to craft the actual design of the shoe and then beginning to cut the leather according to the pattern, in this process the artisan will not going to cut the actual leather that you have chosen, rather they would cut the scrab leather (second-grade leather) to make the shoe with a cork sole for the first and second fitting as well.

For fittings, concentrate on the meticulous rectification, fit and balancing of the measurement and gets the client's feedback, thereafter the artisan will modify the last and then begin to make your shoes.

The welting of bespoke shoes is a quintessential part of bespoke shoemaking, traditionally they used to make with hand welting (using some traditional tools and methods to construct the entire shoe), and subsequently, also used to construct by a machine called a Goodyear welted construction and its an alternative to the traditional hand welt.

I hope it would help you to get some knowledge about the bespoke shoemaking process and craftsmanship

Cheers gentleman
